Abstract
The study we have·performed shows, in the last years, a significant increase of infectious endocarditis, mainly in pacients with implanted artificial valves and also an increased incidence of Gram-negative bacilli and fungi. The microorganisms involved rose therapeutical difficulties; only a few of beta-lactams, aminoglycozides and fluoroquinolones revealed a good activity. We found a highly resistance to other beta-lactams and even to third-generation cephalosporins. We must consider the long-time and also the expensive costs· of the treatment and paraclinical investigations.
