Abstract
ESWL is the mainstay of treatment of childhood upper fract urofithiasis, but other therapeutic methods retain specific indications. ESWL is effective in the pediatric population and it can be safely performed without long-term broeffects on the function or morfology of the growing kidney. ESWL is the first choice treatment in children with urinary calculi. The stone fragmentation and clearance is much higher in chlfdren than in adults. We conclude that ESWL is the safe and effective method lot treating renal Md ureteral calcuH in children. Endo-urological techniques, mainly percutaneous ptocedures, ureteroscopy and surgical procedures are only indicated for large multiple stones or secondary stones.
