Abstract
Heart failure is a major public health problem and the number of death because of HF has increased steadily despite advances in treatment. ACC/AHA Guidelines decided to take a new approach to the classification of HF, that emphasized both the evolution and progression of the disease and is intend to complement, not to replace NYHA functional classification. Most patients with HF should be routinely managed with a combination of 4 types of drugs: a diuretic, an ACE inhibitor, a beta-adrenergic blocker and (usually) digitalis. In contrast to the treatment of HF due to systolic dysfunction, the management of patients with diastolic dysfunction is based on the control of risk factors.
