Abstract
Low-molecular-weight heparins have proved to be both safe and effective for the prophylaxis and treatment of vascular thrombosis. Their advantages over unfractioned heparin are: unnecessary laboratory monitoring, low frequency of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and osteoporosis. Like unfractioned heparin, low-molecular-weight heparins are unable to inactivate thrombin bound to fibrin.
