Abstract
Myelodysplastic syndromes represent clonal diseases of hematopoietic stem cells that occur predominantly in elderly people, but myelodysplastic syndromes can affect younger patients as well. To achieve the highest success rate of treatment and consequently to increase survival chances, it is necessary to implement ongoing diagnostic and prognostic systems adapted to the specificity of the disease. Cytogenetics, through the approach it proposes, significantly supports this process, becoming in the last few years an integral and indispensable part of it.
