Abstract
The X-ray exploration of the urinary tract and certain urological procedures (extracorporal litotripsy in the case of lumbar ureteral calculus and radical cistectomy with ureter colic urinary derivation) requires a good preparation of the colon. The utilization of Fortrans in the background of preparation for urografhy was investigated on a group of fourteen patients compared with a similar group to which castor oil was administered. The accomplished study shows a significant difference between the two procedures of preparation. Introducing Fortrans in medical practice constitutes a real benefit concretized by: obtaining a constant good preparation, a didstinct grown of acceptability, the lack of secondary reactions, reducing the number of unconvincing examinatior time and the diminution of the patient irradiation dose. The colic vacuum obtained by the use of Fortrans reprezented a successful element in extracorporeal litotripsy of the lumbar ureteral calculus. Fortrans also provides a rapid and confortable preparation of the colon for the ureterosigmoidostomy which follows after the radical cistectomy.
