Abstract

Experimental studies concerning possible interactions with psychocomportmental consequences between diazepam and verapamil. The present study evaluates the possible sedatil anxiolytic effect of verapamil and the possibilities of any drug interaction with psycho-comportmental consequences, between this calcium channel blocker and diazepam. These might be significant for the cardiovascular patients under treatment with verapamil and which, for different reasons, are concomitantly treated with benzodiazepines. For this, both substances were intraperitoneally injected (i.p.) separately or together associated in mice, which were then tested to evaluate the sedative and anxiolytic effect of drugs. An exploratory test was used to evaluate sedative effect and the “black and white box” test to appreciate the anxiolytic effect. The results we obtained showed that verapamil, by itself, has a weak anxiolytic effect, but in association with diazepam – it increase both, the sedative and anxiolytic effects of this benzodiazepine.
