Abstract
Ceftibuten (Cedax®), a new oral cephalosporine of third generation, with a once-daily dosing regime, has the qualities of a modern antibiotic. Ceftibuten represents the beginning of a strategy which has adopted pharmacokinetic principles to optimise antibiotic therapy. It has been developed like a broad-spectrum antibiotic stable to betalactamases, active against the main respiratory and urinary tract pathogens. Due to its excellent compliance and tolerability Cedax® is successfully used in the treatment of common respiratory and urinary tract infections in both pediatric and adult patients.
