Abstract
The authors reviewed the basic principles of antineoplastic therapy in pediatrics. ln the first section they discussed the normal cellular kinetics, the kinetics of neoplastic cells and the action of antineoplastic drugs in relation to the biologic properties of cancer cells. They also presented the major clases of antineoplastic drugs, their chemical structure and their activity related to the cell-cycle phases (cyclodependent and cycloindependent drugs). Finally, they discussed the basic aspects of therapeutic protocols in Pediatric Oncology, the periods of treatment and the general principles of combined chemotherapy.
