Abstract

The acute myocardial infarction was induced by large doses of isoprenaline (300 mg/kg body weight). The electrocardiographical recordings were made before the administration of isoprenaline: at 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours and 24 hours after the injection of isoprenaline. The presence of acute myocardial infarction was confirmed both electrocardiographically and anatomo pathologically. The results showed that pretreatment with captopril prevents: the decrease in P wave amplitude, the left deviation of the P wave’s frontal electrical axis and the decrease of the ORS complex amplitude, all suggesting a favorable hemodynamic state for the lot with captopril. It was also noticed that, while for the witness lot the ORS axis is deviated to the left, for the lot pretreated with captopril no notable changes were seen, asserting the improvement of the left ventricle’s functioning during acute ischemia, for the animals pretreated with captopril. Also the prolongation of the PR interval is prevented suggesting a possible prophylactlcal effect against atrioventricular conduction disturbances. All these facts imply a favorable effect of captopril in the sense of ameliorating the ischemo-lesional changes.
