Abstract
The potential antihypoxic effect of piracetam has been evaluated on a reproducible model of hypoxic hypoxia in guinea pigs. Installing a transientperiod of apneea, visible cerebral and cardiac pathological changes occur on EEG and ECG. Piracetam in a 0,25 mmoles/kg unique dose facilitated the pos th ypo xic neuro nal recovery. The superior 4 nimoles/kg dose, delays the onset of the pathological modifications on the EEG and it accelerates, as well as the inferior dose, the reinitiation of the electric cerebral activity. Piracetam, in both doses, failed to protect the myocardium against hypoxic hypoxia.
