Abstract
Viral myocarditis has a proteiform clinical picture, varying from asymptomatic forms to rapid progressive, lethal forms. Up-to-date methods of diagnosis of acute viral myocarditis are presented. The development of new techniques of detection and amplification of viral nucleic acide and their applying to the cardiac tissue obtained by endomyocardial biopsy showed incitant data regarding the viral etiology of myocarditis and dilated cardiomyopathy. As possible, the treatment of viral myocarditis has to be directed against the specific etiological agents implicated. The administration of glucocorticoids in the acute phase of viral myocarditis is correlate with rapid clinical deterioration. Currently, immunosuppressive therapy is not recommanded, excepting the situation when the patients are included in controlled studies.
