Abstract

Severe enterocolitis with acute grade Ill dehydratation syndrome and hypovolemic colaps occurs relatively frequent in malnourished infants , that have some predisposing factors for digestive infections complicated with important hidro-electrolitic and acid-basis disequibriums.Involvement of the nervous system during these episodes appears through implicate pathogenetic mechanisms including acidosis, electrolitic disequilibriums perturbations of cerebral circulation, action of bacterial toxins and other toxic catabolites. All these determine the apparition of acute cerebral edema, citotoxic and vasogenic, and of cerebral ischemia that will determine a difuze, severe, sometimes irreversible neurologic suffering. The paper presents and explains the neurologic symptoms that developed in 26 distrophic infantsdiagnozed with enteroclitic and acute Ill dehidratation syndrome with severe methabolic disequilibriums, also the pathologic aspects of the cases with unfavorable evolution.
