Abstract

Protein kinase C (PKC) is responsible for the phos phorilation of a very large number of cellular
proteins, on serine or threonin amino acids. This article presents the general properties of the enzyme, but is focused on the particularities of the myometrial isoforms, with a great mean on their implications in contraction. There are mentioned, also, the roles of PKC in other internal signal systems, including the cells growth and multiplication, stabilization of the actinic cytoskeleton etc.
