Abstract
The article is a review of the recent epidemiological problems concerning the pneumococcal infections, with special emphasis on the occurence and world wide spread of the penicillin resistent pneumococcus (PRP) and it’s multidrugresistence. We are discussing the genetic background, the special serotypes involved in the antibiotic resistence (prevalence and importance in different localisation at different age) and the predisposing factors proved to the responsable of the antibiotic resistence.
