Abstract

Small birth weight can be considered as a predictor factor for adults cardiovascular pathology. Classical paradigms regarding hypertension, ischaemic heart disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus etiology have been changed due to large epidemiological studies. The hypothesis of thrifty genotype and trifthy phenotype explains the way in which selection has been made during generations or fetal life, in population or in subjects having a particular and metabolic setup, specially insulin resistance. Abundant feeding pattern during childhood and adulthood different of the early programming of metabolism can explain the explosive growth of cardiovascular and metabolic pathology in many parts of the world.
