Abstract

In clinical neurology the diagnosis and treatment of dystonic manifestations are some of the most difficult tests for any neurologist. If nowadays our full conception concerning the aetiopathogeny and diagnosis of these diseases is changing almost completely comparing to our knowledge 10 – 15 years ago, due to the spectacular progress in human genetic research, the symptomatic treatment of dystonias is a clinical scientific reality after the introduction, more than 20 years ago, am mg the therapeutical weapons, of one of the most potent lethal toxins known, but which became a therapeutical drug once its structure and action mechanisms could be used by those who are intiated, in condition of safety: the botulinum toxin. In this article, the authors report the results of the clinical observations from their own experience concerning the benefits of using the botulinum toxin type A (Dysport) in the management of muscle dystonias and underline its increased efficacy if, and only if the treatment is strictly individualised after a rigurous diagnostic assessement, and a strict conformation to all the rules for the use of botulinum toxins for therapeutic aim.
