Abstract

Unlike the period up to 1980, when the physical training was considered to have an aggravating effect in the evolution of the congestive heart failure – stages II and Ill, nowadays it is known that it has a benefic effect because it prevents the appearance of venous thrombosis with embolic complications and contributes to the release of endothelium relaxing factor which counteracts the sympathetic stimulation, promoting the vasodilatation and the increase of blood flow in vital organs and muscles. We studied 56 patients with congestive heart failure (group A) which suffered the standard treatment with tonicardiac medication, diuretics and ACE-inhibitors together with physical training (walking 3 km daily during one year), comparatively with another group of 52 patients (group B) which didn’t undertook physical training. All were submitted to complete patients belonging to the two groups clinical examination, establishing ejection fraction of left ventricle and the cardiac output at the beginning and at the end of study. It is obvious that in the first group who performed, besides medication, physical training, the studied parameters (especially ejection fraction of the left ventricle), were evidently improved. In conclusion we can say that the gradual and sustained physical training after the compensation of hydrops, led to an evident increase of heart performance in patients suffering of congestive heart failure, stages II and III.
