Abstract

Monitoring the environment for the presence of compounds which may adversely affect human health and local ecosystems is a fundamental part of the regulation, enforcement and remediation processes which will be required to maintain a habitable environment. In this article we will outline several biosensor applications which may fill existing technology gaps in the area of environmental monitoring. The requirements for these environmental biosensors, as well as difficulties in commercialization, are also addressed.
