Abstract
The data in the literature on the pharmacology and therapeurically indications of nifedipin in obstetrics and gynaecology are reviewed. Nifedipin, an important calcium channel blocker, belongs to the dihydropyridine class which blocks the L calcium channel, also named slow calcium channels. In vivo, nifedipin has less significant effects on heart conduction system as compared to other calcium channel inhibitors. The results of experimental and clinical researches on the treatment of premature delivery and pregnancy-induced hypertension are presented. Nifedipin proved to be an effective antihypertensive drug and a strong tocolytic agent, which unlike other therapeutically agents has little side effects (headache, facial vasodilatation, arterial hypotension). In gynaecology, nifedipin gives good results in dysmenorrhea, or instable urinary bladder.
