Abstract

We present a study realized on 12 patients diagnosed 1’n Pediatric Clinic II Cluj-Napoca with tiyperthermia {rectal temperature over 41’C, respectively over 39’C 1’n neonates) during a 5 year period. We have analyzed the structure of the cases function to the age, localization and etiology of the infections that evolve with hyperpyrexia compared with the studies published on this problem. It is mentioned that meningitis and encephalitis are the main cause of major hyperthermia due to complex mechanism {hypothalamus disorder, acute cerebral edema, increase of heat generation). The second important cause is represented by severe infections with Group B Salmonella, probable due to the action of Salmonella endotoxine. We have described the complete clinical picture of hyperthermia, insisting on neurological manifestations, on laboratory test results {EEG, imagistics, ophthalmoscopy). There are mentioned the treatment and the evolution of the cases, underlining the resistance to the therapy of malignant hyperthermia 1’n 50% of the patients, being one of the indicators of severity and prognosis.
