Abstract

Calcitonin is a hormone which has a role in calcium homeostasis in the organism. The aim of this study is to investigate the possible role of calcitonin in the transmission and perception of pain, by studying its administration on analgesic tests to laboratory animals. The sample was represented by white male mice divided in five groups. The animals were injected with different doses of calcitonin, diclofenac and the association calcitonin-diclofenac. The analgesia was evaluated by the hot-plate test. The results show a clear analgesic effect of calcitonin and the potentiation of the diclophenac analgesic effect.
