Abstract
Antiretroviral agents
1. Reversetranscriptase inhibitors
In the past 10 years, therapeutic strategies for HIV infection have expanded dramatically from treatment with. a single medication to combinations with as many as three different classes of antiviral agents, and ongoing studies are exploring the addition of biologic response modifiers to standard treatment. Our currently antiretoviral armamentarium includes RTls (both nucleoside and nonnucleoside), which act at the early stage of replication, and inhibitors of viral protease, which work in the later stage after viral integration. The discussion that fol6ws describes the antiretrovirals currently in use.
