Abstract
In this article, we review some of the experimental evidence concerning signal transduction of apoptotic cell death. A more detailed perspective is presented on signalling pathways and genes involved in the control of apoptosis. A molecular understanding of these mechanisms may allow the design of therapeutic strategies oriented to either induce or block cell death in medical purposes. The recent progress in understanding the processes reviewed here show that, despite the significant advances, our piciure of apoptotic cell death is far from complete.
