Abstract

Ebastine (Kestlne®) is a rapid onset and long-lasting, non-sedating histamine-receptor antagonist. 127 patients were included in this study (120 with acute urticaria and 7 with chronic urticaria). All these patients were treated in the 1-st dermatological Clinic of ,,N. Gh. Lupu” hospital during may 21st – july 16th 1999. Each patient of at least 12 years old received 20 mg of Kestine (b.i.d.), the total length of the treatment being of seven days in acute forms and two months, respecitvely, in chronic forms. 31 of these patients received a steroid therapy (intravenous route) – for angioedema. None of these patients received a systemic steroid treatment. The efficiency and safety were measured using a clinical schedule concerning the intensity of pruritus, the number, size and shape of papules. The antihistaminic effect of Kestine® ( Rhone-PoulencRorer) 20 mg daily is excelent. Furthermore, the remission of urticaria! lesions is rapid, without central sedation.
