Abstract
This paper presents the basic principles of practice guidelines of antibiotic therapy, for the patients with neutropenia, commissioned by the Infectious Diseases Society of America, through its Practice Guidelines Committee. The purpose of this guidelines, is to provide assistance to clinicians, when they must take a therapeutic decision for the neutropenic patients with fever of unknown origin. The target patients are the individuals with neutropenia secondary to cancer chemotherapy. In this guidelines, it was used a standard system for the strength of the recommendation and the quality of the evidence cited in literature. Also, antibiotic therapy is guiding after the number of the patient’s neutrofils and the evolution of his fever.
