Abstract

The treatment with calcium and magnesium gluconolactate was applied in a group of patients with Basedow’s disease taken under study, after previous determination of magnesemia which initailly was decreased (mean level 1.46°/0) as compared with the controls whose mean level was 1.94%. After 5 days of treatment with 2 vials per day calcium and magnesium gluconolactate, a rise to normalization of magnesemia was noted in patients with Basedow’s disease while in controls the rise was not significant. ln the author’s opinion the return of magnesemia to normal levels is not achieved by a simple supply mechanisms but by rebalancing of the disturbances produced by the excess of thyroid hormones. After 10 days of treatment the changes in both groups were less marked than in the first 5 days of treatment.
