Abstract

The paper analyses the current treatment of ocular toxoplasmosis. The curative treatment has three objectives: destruction and inactivation of the parasite, suppression of unwanted responses and improvement of patient’s immune condition. The therapeutic means to destroy or inactivate the parasite are inhibitors of the metabolism of folic acid, inhibitors of purine and pyrimidine metabolism, inhibitors of protein synthesis, veterinary anticocidials and 1-2-4 trioxanes. Suppression of unwanted reactions is achieved by means of corticoids, folinic acid, photocoagulation, cryotherapy and vitrectomy. To improve the patient’s immune condition are available IFN-y and IL-2.
