Abstract
Bone demineralisation can appear after gastric resection. In the postgastrectomy bone disease it is possible to identify three distinct types of bone lesions: secondary hyperparathyroidism without vitamin D deficiency, osteomalacia and low-turnover osteoporosis. Clinical, biological and densitometric evaluation allow an adequate therapy. The association of calcium supplements and vitamin D or its activ metabolits it is considered by most leading world experts to be the first intervation in the postgastrectomy bone disease. The use of bone formation stimulating drugs (fluoride salts, anabolic steroids etc.) with antiresorbtive agents (estrogens, calcitonin, bisphosphonates) is restricted by specific adverse effects.
