Abstract

Human infection with Trichinella spiralis is fairly common worldwide. Infection is transmitted by ingestion of pork or other meat carrying the parasite. The signs and symptoms appear only Tn heavily infected individuals. Periorbital edema, myalgias, fever and eosinophilia in an individual who gives a history of eating undercooked meat make the diagnosis of trichinosis likely. There is no satisfactory treatment for trichinosis. Albendazole (Zentel) is preferred for 14 days, corticosteroids, may be used Tn critically ill patients.
