Abstract
Spasticity, velocity-dependent hypertonia, is a sign in upper motor neuron syndrome (UMN). It has some advantages, but it also determines impairement of volitional mobility and of motor control, muscular cotractures, pain and defficiencies in perinea! hygiene. These are the reasons for the treatment of spasticity, using physical methods, surgical interventions, medical treatment like baclophen, diazepam, clondine, tizanidine, dantrolene and chemical blocks with etanol, phenol, local anestethics and botulinum toxin.
