Abstract
Genital herpes is becoming a public health problem because of the dramatic increase of ist incidence worldwide, of the large percent of subclinical and asymptomatic forms, of its dramatic impact on the newborn infected from the mother during delivery and because of the increase of HSV 1 implication in genital lesions. Recently it was described the notion of asymptomatic shedding which enables us to consider genital herpes more like a chronic infection which can be transmitted without clinical signs, rather than an intermittent affection. Currently there are described 6 clinical forms of genital herpes: primary genital herpes, non-primary genital herpes, symptomatic genital reccurence, first episode of genital herpes, atypical genital herpes, atypical genital herpes and asymtomatic genital herpes. Recently appeared the “Iong term supressive antiviral treatment”, for patients with more than 6 reccurencies a year. This treatment prevents the reccurencies and massively decreases the asymptomatic viral shedding.
