Abstract
Acute pneumonia was and still is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality. A patient with typical CAP presents sudden onset with chill, fever, pleural pain, cough, expectoration, dyspnea. Elderly patients may present an atypical clinical presentation: confusion, decompensation of underlying diseases. Chest radiography is recommended to patients suspected of having CAP. It is important to perform a severity assessment of CAP in order to decide whether to treat the patient with CAP as outpatient or as inpatient, in the ward or in the ICU. A lot of patients with CAP could be correctly treated with oral antimicrobial drugs.
