Abstract
The study was prospective and its aim was to analize a 68 patients group with the diagnosis of acute diarrhea, between O and 2 years, admitted in the Pediatric Clinic of Central Children’s Hospital, during the period 07.01 – 1996 – 08.15.1996. After the patient was admitted in the hospital, the pediatrician had to choose the treatment using a decisional tree. There were two types of dietary treatments: (1) using a transition diet followed by slow refeeding and (2) using early refeeding after rehydration therapy. The media of the age was 6,69 months; the group included 38 (55,9%) boys and 30 (44,1%) girls. 28 patients had mild dehydration, 7 had moderate dehydration and 6 had severe dehydration. The subjects with mild dehydration .and the two subjects with moderate dehydraiton received oral rehydration solutions with very good results. Oral rehydration therapy failed in 3 cases. There was no difference from the statistical point of view between the patients with early refeeding (duration of diarrhea 2,44 + 1,74 days, duration of hospitalization 5,54 + 3,48 days) and the patients fed with the transition diet (duration of diarrhea 2,25 + 1,12 days, duration of hospitalization 5,35 + 3,74 days).
